Cleaning crayon and pen marks from walls

You get up in the morning and your artistic child has taken advantage of the huge blank canvas called a wall and merrily drawn her princess and her horse with ballpoint pen, crayons, whiteboard marker. 

After a discussion with the budding artist about appropriate drawing materials you are then faced with the clean up?  Do you paint over it.? Well you could but with lighter paints sometime dark marker will show through unless you use a blocking undercoat.  Apart from that this can be quite disruptive.

You could, and many people do, cleaning chemicals from under the bench.  The likes of Spray & Wipe or even Jif,  Sometimes these might work but a lot of hard scrubbing will be needed and often these are full of chemicals.  Certainly the abrasive cleaners and pads are not great for painted walls.
